Bouwinvest postpones rental increase for residential tenants
The affordability of housing in the Netherlands has been a serious issue for quite some time and now a number of our tenants are being affected financially by the coronavirus measures. Bouwinvest has already been able to help various tenants with financial measures. In addition, we have decided to cancel the scheduled rental increase per 1 July 2020 and to postpone it indefinitely.
Moderate rental increase policy
Bouwinvest invests capital in real estate for institutional investors, primarily Dutch pension funds. We invest for the long term to generate a stable return for our clients. In 2018 and 2019 we increased rents moderately with inflation plus a maximum of 1% and 0.5% respectively. By pursuing a moderate rental increase policy, we ensure that our shareholders receive a stable income and also that we can maintain and renovate our residential units and make them more sustainable. We were planning to continue this moderate rental increase policy in 2020. Due to the current circumstances, however, we have decided to cancel the scheduled rental increase from 1 July and to postpone it indefinitely.
